Lance Litchfield is a master luthier living near Brisbane. Here is a brief introduction.
“Like many Australians, I have a mixed heritage with a Chinese born mother and an Australian father. I was born in Papua New Guinea in 1969, but have spent all but those first five years in Brisbane, Queensland.
“My education beyond secondary level includes studies in engineering, music, fine arts and a BSc from the University of Queensland. My creative endeavours include exhibitions of paintings and drawings, and my career in luthiery. Guitar making has been a discipline that has channeled many of my interests into the one field.
“I made my first guitar in 1991, and have been mostly self-taught with generous help from friendly instrument makers, literature, and musicians. The growing list of countries that hold my guitars includes the United States, Germany, Sweden, Norway, France, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Korea and Australia. I sometimes travel overseas to further my skills and knowledge and to meet and visit guitar players.
“My guitars are noted for their power and presence, as well as for their sweetness and warmth of tone. They excel in modern performance traits, while never losing what makes the classical guitar such an appealing and subtle instrument. All of my guitar models are built to the highest possible standards and have been accepted as among some of the world’s best concert guitars.
“Aside from the guitar world, some of my other interests include mountain biking, freediving and kayaking, which fit in perfectly with the local climate and environment.”
